My best friend, Ava, and I are at different ministries for the last two months of the race and we are in different towns during the week. We only see each other on the weekends so we have started sending emails during the week with fun stories or updates! This is an email that I sent her this past week of what the Lord has been and is teaching me.

Ava,

I’m sitting in the back of a classroom watching a teacher teach a math lesson in Spanish… what is ministry lol (I’m reading Garden City haha).

Here’s the story:

SO in worship on Saturday I grabbed a random Bible and the Lord told me to open psalm 27–LITERALLY CRAZY. the whole chapter is incredible but these verses stuck out the most

Verse 4:

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”

?

Verse 8:

“You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Verse 10:

“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.”

??

Verse 13-14:

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

??

Dwelling in the house of the Lord, seeking His face, waiting on the Lord, the Lord’s approval over my parents’, gazing upon the beauty of the Lord/beholding… literally everything He’s been teaching me since GEORGIA with making my home in the Lord all the way until now with waiting on the Lord and seeking His face—all in one psalm that I’ve never even read before!!!!!! He’s so good and this chapter is seriously becoming my ANTHEM of the Race.

I was talking to Haley yesterday afternoon about how the Lord was bringing me back to everything I learned in Georgia about making my home in Him and dwelling in His house. He is in my heart and life, but I’m also in His is and He’s made His house my house! I was praying and thinking about what the house of the Lord looks like to me and I drew in my journal (the left page in the picture)

A window looking out at all the beauty he created, a palm tree that’s PLANTED (psalm 92 has been huge right now too) and a throne. At first I thought the throne was His but then I realized it was mine. He made a seat for me, a throne for royalty, that I get to sit in. I look around at the palm trees and look out the windows onto His creation, but most importantly I sit down and rest and look at His face!! I gaze upon the beauty of the Lord day after day after day all while sitting and resting on a throne that He created just for me!!!! WOW HE’S SO GOOD!

All that to say the fact that you sent me a verse from psalm 27 and a photo of a bench and said take a seat in the same email when I hadn’t even told you any of this—SO HOLY and you hear His voice so clearly. It’s an honor that He chooses to use you to encourage me and remind me that He’s still with me and He’s still good even on mornings that feel hard.

[the photo I’m referencing that Ava sent me that morning from her ministry]

I’m sitting in a chair that looks a lot like the one I drew, watching kids learn and be shaped to step into the work the Lord has prepared for their lives, and I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude for His design of this world (Garden City talking again haha).

Sorry this was so long, I hope you have the best day ever and I love you so much!!!!!!

I have continued to think about this idea of dwelling in the house of the Lord. What an honor that He not only invites us into His home, but that He lets us partner with Him and be co-owners! We have an inheritance now that we have been adopted into the family of God—we get to dwell with Him for eternity!

Psalm 27, 84, and 92 have been speaking to me in a million different ways over the past 7 months. I encourage you to take time to read them this week and ask the Lord what it looks like to dwell in His house and to seek His face in all that you do this week!

His love + mine,

bree

[Last thing: I got a key necklace at the beginning of the Race with a prophetic word on it—HOME. Time and time again the Lord has taken me deeper and taught me more about His home! How cool!!]

One response to “The House of the Lord”

  1. goodness i love you! its an honor to know you and walk alongside you in this season in a totally different way, but still see the Lord moving in the same ways! He’s so good! He teaches me more and more about Himself through you. always proud of you.
